Bleeding Heart Valloween Cookies

Love is in the air – and sometimes you can be so in love it hurts (plus, you love things with a dash of spooky!)! For all of you spooky lovers, I have a fun Valloween cookie recipe and ideas for you and your sweetheart to enjoy!

Keep reading for the recipe, ideas and tips to create this ghoulish treat:

You can use store bought sugar cookie dough or whip up one yourself (I have the instructions for an easy no chill sugar cookie dough below). I had to go grab some heart shaped cookie cutters and found a package with varying sizes at my local Walmart for $0.98! You can make your own red or pink frosting, but I am not too bit on heavily frosted cookies (to each their own!) and I opted for a red gel to decorate with (also found in the seasonal baking aisle in Walmart).

No Chill Sugar Cookie Dough

  • 1 cup butter (2 sticks)
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 3 cups of flour

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 375 degrees
  • Cream butter and sugar together with a mixer; add in eggs and vanilla
  • Add baking powder and flour gradually while mixing
  • Do not chill!
  • Separate dough into two balls; roll and cut! (it helps to coat the cookie cutters and rolling pin in flour)
  • Bake for 12-15 minutes until golden
  • Lett cool completely before decorating!

The best part (besides eating the cookies!) is decorating them! To draw a dripping blood effect is fairly simple – it helps to outline the drip (see photo below) and then squeeze the bottle to fill it in. If you’re using icing, consider putting it in a sandwich bag and cut a small section off the tip to pipe it on and use a toothpick to help drag and shape the design.

I wanted to change up my designs a bit – and these cookies needed some Halloween-inspired conversation heart phrases! I piped on the following phrases:

  • Bone Head
  • Boo
  • Cool Ghoul
  • Brains

I hope you feel inspired to whip up some spooky Valloween cookies for a frightfully delightful Valloween! Enjoy!
